Agora Streaming & Video Conference

Hello and thank you for such a great plugin! :raised_hands:

I’m using it only for audio conversations we don’t enable or use video in our app at all. However, I noticed that the browser still asks for camera permissio* every time the plugin initializes, even though we don’t plan to use it.

Would it be possible to disable the camera permission request when video is not needed?
I understand that in the past it was a requirement to request both microphone and camera together, but nowadays most web apps request only the permission they actually use (for example, just microphone if there’s no video).

Could you please consider adding this feature so that the camera permission isn’t requested unless it’s actually needed or let me know how to configure it properly if this is already possible?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello @Bara,

Thanks again for reaching out with your question.

We’ve reviewed the behavior further, and you’re correct: even in audio-only scenarios, the Agora Web SDK currently requests camera access by default. This behavior is consistent even in the demo app, and the available plugin settings don’t override it. I’ve tried a couple of test setups, with different plugin configuration, and the outcome was always similar.

Unfortunately, due to how the SDK initializes media tracks, there’s no built-in way to prevent the camera permission prompt. At this time, the plugin doesn’t support injecting a true audio-only configuration directly.

If you have any other questions or ideas, feel free to share.
