Audio Recorder Plugin : Record audio when device is in locked state / screen turns off

Hello, I recently purchased the audio recorder app and really appreciate it

Is it possible to continue recording audio when the device enters a locked state?

For example, if I am recording from my mobile device, I would like the audio to continue to record when the screen turns off. Is this possible?

I understand I could prevent the device screen from turning off but it would be most ideal if the recording would continue in the locked state.

Thank you!

Hi @munxch, thanks for reaching out.

Yes, it is possible. I’ve tested our live demo page on my phone that runs on Android and tried on a Windows device as well, in both cases the recording was still going until I hit the Stop Recording Button. The plugin was recording with a locked screen.

In case you have tried on a specific device and this didn’t work, please share with us more details regarding the device you used, and it will be very helpful if you share as well your setup of the plugin and the workflows you create inside your Bubble app.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information.
Best regards,

Hey Igor! Thanks for the response.

So it seems that recording works on Android when the device is locked, but does record on iOS in locked state. I’ve tested it my iPhone 12 pro on both chrome + safari. When the device locks it essentially pauses the recording and then when unlocking the device, the recording continues.

As mentioned, I also tested on my Pixel 6 pro and it seems to work fine with android!

Here’s my setup:

Hi @munxch, thanks for your detailed message.
Sorry for the late reply due to the weekend.

I’ve passed this request to the developer team for investigation. Once any news will become available, I will let you know. Thank you for understanding.

In case there will be any other plugin-related questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me, I will be glad to help
Best regards,

Great thanks, Igor

Any update on this?

Hi @munxch,
Thank you for your patience.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find out yet the reason why this is happening on iOS devices when the screen is locked. We have tried the official demo library that we use, on android it works surprisingly, but not on iOS.

Our dev team is still working and investigating it. Once any news will become available, I will let you know ASAP. Thank you for understanding.

Have a great week.
Best regards,

Hello @munxch,
It has been a while, but here is some great news for you.

We have pushed a plugin update, that has fixed some of the earlier reported issues, namely:

  • Fixed record length calculation. Disabled formats that require cross-origin isolation.

This plugin allows you to record voice in .wav , .ogg , .mp3, or .pcm mono/stereo formats. Unfortunately, for the iOS device, it will pause the recording once you locked the screen, due to the Apple privacy policy (there is no workaround for this). Also, the record length will be calculated correctly once you unlocked the screen and pause the recording.

To check changes, please upgrade your plugin to the latest version (Version 1.36.0: Fixed record length calculation. Disabled formats that require cross-origin isolation.) and give it a try.

Best regards,
