Copy to Clipboard with formatting - problem, copies everything

I’m writing to inform you about the latest update to the “Copy to Clipboard” plugin, version “2.38.0.” In this update, we’ve further investigated the plugin’s behavior and identified the cause of the spaces that were appearing. This issue has now been addressed and fixed.

Additionally, if you copy the text into Gmail, you may notice some padding. After investigating, we found that this is caused by the Gmail editor and how it handles the data from the Rich Text Input. To resolve this → on your bubble page, you can add an HTML element and include the following CSS in it:

.ql-editor {
  padding: 0 !important;
} 
</style>

This will remove the padding the thr RTE element so it will not be visible. Could you please check all of this on your end and let me know how everything is working for you?

The reason why I take it so serious is because I’m building a platform that relies on your copy to Clipboard with formatting action. That’s why I need it to work perfectly.

After the recent update, I cannot paste it into Gmail anymore. When I paste it into Gmail it just pastes in a white space. Can you please check again?

I am sorry to learn that you still encounter some difficulties, I have looked into the issue now but haven’t been able to reproduce the concern you reported. Could you please show how you set the action on your end and let me know if you used any CSS styling for the RTE element?

To add our Support Team as a collaborator, please follow these steps in the Bubble Editor: Settings > Collaboration > Add email support@zeroqode.com.

Additionally, please provide instructions on how to reproduce the issue, including:

• The name of the page where the plugin element is located
• The group or repeating group containing the element
• The plugin element configuration and any attached workflows
• A brief description of the steps to replicate the issue (e.g., where to click) and user credentials for troubleshooting
• If possible, a short Loom video demonstrating the issue would be very helpful.

Now it suddenly works. Thank God!!

There is only one small issue left:

If I copy text from the RTE and paste it into a notepad, it looks like it should:

But if I copy the same text from the RTE and paste it into GMAIL or Apple Mail it looks like this:

(The line of the pasted text does not start at the very left edge as it should.) Could you please have a look at it?

I’m glad to hear that the white space issue is no longer present. Please let me know if you notice anything else on your end.

Regarding the padding, the RTE element does add padding at the beginning of the text, which is copied along with the action. For your use case, please add a bubble HTML element to the page and include the following CSS[image]:

<style>
  .ql-editor { padding: 0 !important; }
</style>

This will remove the padding and ensure the text starts at the edge as it should. Could you please try this on your end and let me know how it works?

Hey @Stephan Thanks, the HMTL solution fixed the issue

Only thing left: Even though it works in general the issue where it just pastes a white box into GMAIL or Apple Mail, occurs sometime. From what I’ve seen the issue only occurs at first page loads (at least with Google Chrome and Firefox). After one or two reloads it then works perfectly and keeps working perfectly.

Could you please check with the team that created the copy with formatting action to see if the can come up with an idea why this happens?

I am writing to follow up on the concern you noticed with the Copy to Clipboard plugin—notably that it wasn’t copying on the first click.

The dev team looked into the test page and workflow. The reason is in the workflow: when clicking the copy button, the application runs a series of actions:

1. Change text in the rich text editor
2. Show popup
3. Wait 1 millisecond
4. Run copy action

The application requests text from the database, which takes some time, so by the time step 4 runs, the rich text editor is either empty or still contains the previous text.

The 1ms pause is not enough to display the popup, so an error occurs on the first attempt because the element is not found.

Could you please review the new workflows[image] and let me know if everything is clear or if you have any further questions?

Regarding your question, yes, it is totally possible to copy formatting from static text as well—just use the ID attribute of that text element instead. Also, please you can check our demo page for several examples.

Good news! Thank God, the issue I was dealing with (regarding the white empty field) was solved. The html code that I was using to hide the Popup while copying caused it.

But I’ve now found two bugs that I didn’t notice before. Can you please have a look at them?

I’m writing to follow up on the concerns you raised regarding the Copy to Clipboard plugin. For your first concern about the content being inserted into a block, we investigated it and found that it is due to how Gmail handles copied content. For instance, when you copy a block of content using Command + C from Wiki and then paste it into Gmail, Gmail parses it as a block (please see this video for an example).

Regarding your second concern, we also looked into it and found that it is related to Gmail’s rich text editor. Gmail uses its own parser, which reduces formatting by removing extra new lines from the pasted content.

Unfortunately, these behaviors are determined by Gmail’s parsing system, so we are unable to change them on our end.

Is it possible that both thinga could be solved if the Copy to Clipboard plugin would allow to copy text from the Bubble.io database with formatting? (As this would not copy a block but just text?)

Zerocode already have a feature that can copy from the database “copy from static text”, but currently it is without formatting.

Is there any chance you could add a feature to the Copy to Clipboard plugin that allows to copy text from the database with formatting?

This plugin seems to be a copy of your Copy to Clipboard plugin - but with one major difference: This plugin can copy text without copying the block of the RTE, but it doesn’t copy with formatting…

Could you please check it out and maybe update your plugin as well so it doesn’t copy the block?

I have looked into the mentioned plugin, and it does appear to be a copy of the Air Copy to Clipboard plugin. However, in that plugin the “Copy with formatting” action simply copies plain text—which is also available with our plugin when you copy static text.

As mentioned in the previous message, we have investigated the cause of the box appearing when inserted into Gmail. As discussed, these are particularities of Gmail’s RTE that are beyond our control. We have also tested other text editors without such strict settings, and the content was pasted seamlessly.
