Copy to Clipboard with formatting - problem, copies everything

Hallo

I’m using the new Copy to Clipboard with formatting action in Bubble.

I’m using the feature to copy rich text from a richt text editor:

If I then copy the text from it and paste it into a Google document everything is perfect. But, if I paste it into an email application like Google Mail it looks like the following:

*Somehow it then also pastes the whole editor not just the text.

Is this something you can fix? Or is there any solution to it?

Hello @nilsklinger1 ,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Regarding your questions, could you please confirm which exact plugin you are referring to? Is it the “# Air Copy to Clipboard Plugin”, as it is the only plugin from our side that includes the “Copy to Clipboard with formatting” action? Additionally, could you share screenshots on how you have set up the action on your end and specify which RTE element you are referring to? Is it Bubble’s default RTE?

Thanks, and I look forward to your reply.

Hey @Stephan  Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I’m using the " Air Copy to Clipboard Plugin". I’m using it to copy the Data from the RTE via it’s element ID:

Yes it is the default RTE from Bubble:

I also noticed some other issues with the same Air Copy to Clipboard action:

1) When I copy text from the RTE that includes rich text (e.g. bold text), when I paste it into the browser’s search bar, the spaces between words are removed:

2) When I copy text from one RTE and paste it into another RTE in Bubble, it inserts a lot of blank lines at the top:

Hello @nilsklinger1,

Thank you for your message, and my apologies for the late reply over the weekend.

I’ve looked further into the concern you reported. To copy content from the RTE element, it’s best to use the “Copy to clipboard with formatting” action, which will copy the text from the RTE in the correct format. In addition, please set the Target selector to specifically target the content from the element, avoiding any unnecessary formatting.

Instead of “idHere”, replace it with the element’s ID attribute:
#idHere [id^=richtext-editor]

This action was added to help when using the RTE element, as it contains more information by default.

Could you please try this on your end and let me know how it works for you?

Thank you, and I look forward to your reply.

Thanks @Stephan for your reply.

Using #idHere [id^=richtext-editor] solved some problems.

But it is still not fully working. If I paste the text into Gmail for example, there is still 1 bottom bar visible:

Can you please fix it. Your update already removed all the other bars, only this one is still here.

Hello @nilsklinger1 ,

Thank you for your attention on this.

I’ve further looked into your observation and confirmed that a blank [ ] remains causing the bar to appear in gmail, which shouldn’t be there. I’ve forwarded this to our development team for further investigation and resolution.

I’ll be in touch as soon as I have an update from them. In the meantime, if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you again, and have a wonderful holiday season! :christmas_tree:

Hello @nilsklinger1,

I hope this message finds you well.

I’m reaching out regarding the concern you noticed with the blank “[]” appearing when copying with formatting in the Air Copy to Clipboard plugin. Good news! We’ve just released an update for the plugin (version 2.37.0), where this problem has been successfully resolved. The plugin will now copy content cleanly.

Could you please update the plugin in your app, test it out, and let me know if everything works as expected on your end? If you have any additional questions, feel free to share them with us—we’d love to hear from you.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hey @Stephan  Thank you very much. Yes, the update fixed the issue with the blank “[]” .

However now I noticed another issue. Could you please also have a look at that one:

The normal text looks like the following (in Gmail):
Screenshot 2025-01-09 at 21.41.12

But if I copy it with the Copy to Clipboard with formatting action and then paste it into Gmail it look like this:
Screenshot 2025-01-09 at 21.41.40

This is not just empty spaces between the lines. It is a larger line spacing.

Could you please also fix this?

Hello @nilsklinger1 ,

Thanks for your message.

When text is copied from the RTE with its original formatting, any bold, italics, or unique fonts will remain. Depending on the editor you use, it may display differently—for example, in Gmail.

To avoid importing those styles, you can specifically “Paste and Match Style.” On Mac, press Command + Shift + V, or on Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + V when you are pasting. This will paste the text without any formatting.

Could you please check on your end and let me know how it works for you?

Thanks, and I look forward to your reply.

Hey @Stephan  Thanks for your reply.

I understand the general idea of pasting it without style, but I need it to work with formatting.

Maybe it is an issue with the copy to Clipboard with formatting action that can be fixed? Because if I manually copy the text out of the RTE (by selecting it and pressing Ctrl+C) and pasting it into Gmail it works like normal.

Here is an example pasted into Gmail. The first part is manually copied, the second part is copied with your copy to Clipboard with formatting action.

Hello @nilsklinger1,

Thank you for your message and the additional details.

I’ve further looked into the concern and have reopened the initial task so that our developers can investigate further and work on possible solutions regarding the spaces appearing. I’ll be sure to update you as soon as I have more information on this.

If you have any other questions in the meantime, please let me know.
