Stars and Bars does not allow a zero value

I am using the stars and bars plug in to allow my users to quickly enter counts of various items in a list. This means that some items will have a zero value. However, it seems that the stars and bars plugin does not allow a zero value (it seems that at the very least the first star must be selected and that I cannot have my users select a value of less than one.

This makes the plugin unusable for my purpose. I’m hoping someone can suggest a workaround as I would really like to use this plugin!
